The Hague: Europe’s Best Kept Secret for a Summer Coolcation

We also have a beach, Scheveningen

One of our favourite moments is when guests come down to breakfast and ask whether it’s true that The Hague has a beach. It’s true. Seven miles of North Sea coastline, a buzzing pier, surf schools, beach clubs, and a boardwalk that on a good summer day makes you feel like you’ve ended up somewhere much further south. From our front door, Scheveningen is a short tram ride away. Go in the morning for the quiet, or mid-afternoon for the atmosphere.

Our Neighbourhood

We are lucky enough to sit right in the heart of The Hague’s Royal Quarter, opposite the Binnenhof and a short walk from Noordeinde Palace. It means that when our guests step outside, they step straight into one of the most beautiful and historically rich parts of the city.

The Mauritshuis, home to Vermeer’s Girl with a Pearl Earring, is five minutes from our front door. Beyond that, the cobbled streets, the Passage shopping arcade, independent restaurants, and some of the best terraces in the city are all within easy walking distance. We always say that The Hague is a city best explored on foot or by bike, slowly, with nowhere particular to be.

Your Coolcation Base: voco The Hague

At voco The Hague, summer means cocktails at Ultramarijn, terrace lunches at Botanica, and the kind of stay that makes you wonder why you didn’t come sooner. Our city is having a moment and we’d love to share it with you. The south of Europe will still be there next year. This summer, come north.
