From The Hague to Osaka: A Culinary Journey Inspired by a Masterpiece
What if a 17th century painting could bring two cities and two hotels together? That’s exactly what happened. When the iconic Girl with a Pearl Earring temporarily leaves its home at the Mauritshuis to travel to Osaka, we saw more than a cultural moment. We saw an opportunity to create something truly special and so did our colleagues at voco Osaka Central.
Two Cities, One Menu
The Girl with a Pearl Earring normally lives just five minutes from our front door. The Mauritshuis, one of The Hague’s most beloved cultural landmarks, is home to Vermeer’s masterpiece and while the museum undergoes renovation, the painting is making a rare journey abroad, travelling to Osaka where it will be displayed at the Nakanoshima Museum of Art. A once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to see it outside of The Hague, and the perfect inspiration for an exchange of our own.
Just as the painting travels, we are bringing the flavours of Japan to The Hague and sending a taste of the Netherlands to Osaka. Our restaurant Ultramarijn is introducing a special collaboration menu, crafted together with the culinary team at voco Osaka Central, available for a limited time only.

What to Expect at Ultramarijn
Each dish on the collaboration menu tells the story of this unique cultural exchange where Dutch tradition meets Japanese precision, and two culinary worlds come together on one plate.
Osaka Signature Salad: A fresh and vibrant start, celebrating the best of seasonal produce with a light, Japanese-inspired touch.
Gnocchi & Slow-Cooked Bean Soup: A bold and unexpected fusion, the warmth of an Italian classic reimagined with earthy Japanese matcha, slow-cooked with cannellini beans and bacon.
Matcha Tiramisu: A Japanese twist on a beloved dessert. Velvety mascarpone, earthy matcha and the indulgent sweetness of candied chestnut layered to perfection.
Matcha Eggnog: A cocktail that bridges continents, Kleef Dutch liquor meets sake and roasted orange, inspired by the sunrise over the Osaka river.
